Things happen for a reason.
Singapore Opticianry Practitioners (SOP) was formed to handle on-coming issues with regards to Opticians. The better adapted we are at moving forward minus negative feelings that tend to come along with challenges. Once we are used to finding solutions, our committee will be filled with optimism hope and success.
SOP was formed on 11 August 2006 and is proud to be associated with many Opticians in the industry that is willing to always look on the bright side, to always make an opportunity out of every obstacle and to have enough belief to know that it can help Opticians almost every circumstances. After two months of establishing SOP, we were called upon together with some Optometrist to serve the community by offering a free eyes screening for the public organized by Lianhe Wanbao on the 10 December 2006 at Chong Pang Community Centre. This is an effort to lower the health cost where some elderly do not have the extra money to further an eye screening.
SOP went further up to the Wat Namlai in North-East of Thailand on 1st February 2007 to offer another successful free eye screening to the villagers there.SOP has a sizeable number of members who have passed courses conducted by Singapore Polytechnic in Certificate of Performance in Ophthalmic Dispensing (COPOD), Advance Certificate of Performance in Ophthalmic Dispensing (ACOPOD), and Refraction together with knowledge on People & Process Supervision. Some Opticians has acquired Certificate on Primary Eye Care Course conducted by Singapore National Eye Centre and Republic Polytechnic.
With all the knowledge acquired, Opticians shall always place welfare of the public, who require our professional eye care services, before all other considerations. We shall behave in a proper manner towards professional colleagues and shall not bring them or the profession into disrepute. SOP must maintain a high standard of behaviour, integrity and competence; bring to bear all our knowledge, skill and expertise in servicing the public in a safe manner.
SOP will continue to stay focused on the achievement of its mission of promoting best practices in optical industry and the highest standards of ethical conduct in Singapore. |
